Vintage Servicing and Restoration We still offer a servicing & restoration service for vintage valve amplifiers and tuners from the 1950-60s etc. Brands like Leak (Stereo 20, Stereo 50/60, TL12, TL12+, TL25 & TL50) Quad (22 & Quad II power amps, 303 & 405), Radford (STA15 & MA15's, STA25 & MA25's), Pye (Mozart, HF12/PF91, HF25), Rogers, Beam Echo, Dynatron and RGD have all been meticulously restored back to life and will provide service for another 40+ years. The restorations are not cheap but they do represent the best value you can obtain today. All restorations carry a 5 year guarantee on all parts (excluding valves) and labour. Tuners: only Leak Troughline, McIntosh, Fisher, Scott valve models. We do not offer any service for solid state/transistors amplifiers from this period due to the unavailability of parts. We also do not undertake tape recorder repairs. Leak Troughline Tuner (Troughline 2, 3 and Stereo)
For years G T Audio have
been the acknowledged experts on the Leak Troughline tuner. The
performance of which will easily beat the best modern day transistor
designs. Principally the Leak is a very good simple design and when
properly restored, which will need doing due to over 40 years of
use and component degradation, will outperform a new Troughline
if such a thing was still available. Once the tuner has been properly
restored, then a good quality stereo decoder can be fitted. Experience
has shown that it is uneconomical to fit a new decoder until all
the RF circuitry is perfect. New valves will also be required. The
cost to carry out this work is about £475 including parts
and new valves and takes about 4 days to complete the work, but
once completed the Troughline will carry on working for another
40+ years.
It should be worth noting that the Troughline is not particularly sensitive so a 4 element aerial (minimum) is essential. Also if your preference is for quantity rather than quality regarding the number of stations you want to listen too, then you may be better looking at one of the latest DAB designs or in fact a good solid state tuner. These will provide access to a limitless numbers of stations providing acceptable performance. However if sound quality "floats your boat" above anything else then the Troughline is definitely the tuner for you. Please call (tel. 01895 833099) or e-mail with your Troughline restoration inquiry. Please click here for the HiFi World review of the GTA Leak Troughline. (JPG 190kb) Which Decoder? A special stereo decoder was developed for the Leak Troughline tuner and this is available exclusively through G T Audio. There are two versions of the decoder, one called simply the "Standard decoder" and one called the "Audiophile decoder". The latter was conceived to squeeze every last drop of performance from this excellent tuner. Both versions can be fitted internally within the Troughline or they can be supplied as a stand alone unit in an attractive anodised aluminium case. Prices are as follows:
Tuner restoration - approximately £475
Standard Decoder kit (D.I.Y) £225 Standard Decoder (internally fitted) £250 - Stand alone version £350 Audiophile Decoder (fitted) £350 - Stand alone version £450 Please note that the decoders above can be used with other Vintage tuners like the Quad FM1 etc. Please call (tel. 01895 833099) or e-mail with your Decoder inquiry. |
